Who am I?
My name is Laura, and I am an at home mama to four kids. As of June 2010, they are 11, 8, 5, and 2 (both terrific and terrible). We are expecting baby #5 in December! My two oldest are homeschooling, and my son attends developmental preschool four times a week. He has developmental delays in speech, social, and adaptive skills, but the casual observer would never know it. We are currently following a gluten-free diet, and it has helped SO much.
I'm a breastfeeding advocate and aspiring midwife. Alas, midwifery doesn't help pay the bills, so it may be a while before I can follow that calling. I'm currently working toward an associates degree, one class at a time. I'm sure that will get me... somewhere. In the meantime, I get to practice balancing my schooling, homeschooling, parenting, budgeting, researching autism spectrum (ASD) and language processing disorders, fighting with the insurance company, learning to cook gluten-free, managing my own chronic autoimmune disorders, and keeping my marriage solid. Nothing big, you know.
What's this webpage about?
Oh, you know, whatever is on my mind. Mostly I'll use this page to post my rants and ravings about things that I am passionate about, or annoyed by. The sorts of things that just don't fit in a two sentence facebook post. :P I used to post here semi-regularily, but fell out of the habit. Life takes over sometimes, you know?
A few of my favorite topics, in no particular order:
birth, homebirth, unassisted birth, breastfeeding, parenting, homeschooling, reading, learning, socialization, writing, NaNoWriMo, changing the world, hope and discouragement, community, family, healthy (and not so healthy) eating, gluten-free cooking, autism, large families, fertility, natural family planning, religion and atheism, attachment parenting, co-sleeping and bedsharing, healthy sleeping, boundaries, balance, peaceful living... Fun crunchy stuff, even though I'm kinda soggy these days.
Why should I care?
You shouldn't. There are lots and lots of better thinkers, writers, and bloggers than me. And they probably have great RSS feeds and stuff. This page is written mostly for me and my family. However, I have been accused of being funny and even sometimes insightful. So you are welcome to check in from time to time and see if I live up to this accusation. I probably wont. But, you know. If you have nothing better to read. I'll see if I can't dig up some links here and there and post them for others reading fodder.
